About Meghalaya

Located in North-east India, Meghalaya, also known as the Abode of Clouds, falls in one of the richest biodiversity areas in the world.
The word Meghalaya means, "abode of the clouds". Meghalaya is one of the Seven Sister States of northeast India. The state of Meghalaya is mountainous, with stretches of valley and highland plateaus, and it is geologically rich. Meghalaya is famous for its hills, lush greenery and its natural beauty. Meghalaya is also famous for its huge orchids. There are many varieties of vegetables, fruits and spices that are found here.Meghalaya, situated in the north eastern region of India is a narrow stretch of land, running between Bangladesh on the South and West and Assam on the North and East.
Shillong is a hill station that is present in the northeast part of India. Shillong called the Scotland of the East because the rolling hills around the town reminded the British of Scotland.
The emblem is a circular seal depicting the following features:
- Three mountain peaks forming the shape of the letter M which represents the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills that make up the state.
-Clouds which allude to the name of the state which means "abode of clouds".
Meghalaya is a mountainous land geographically rich with stretches of valleys and highland plateaus that remain laced with caves, waterfalls, and forests. The state has large deposits of minerals such as coal, limestone, uranium, and sillimanite. There are many rivers in the state mostly rain-fed and seasonal. Meghalaya is one of the most beautiful, naturally blessed and culturally diverse states of India that defines India. Also famous as the Abode in the Clouds, the stunning Meghalaya is noted for its lush landscapes, unbelievably beautiful waterfalls, and indigenous cultures. Meghalaya has a rich and unique tribal culture. A major part of the tribal lives includes lively harvest festivals with mass dances in traditional attire, accompanied by music and dance from bamboo flutes, buffalo horns and drums. Christianity and Hinduism are the main religions of the state. Nohkalikai Falls, at a height of 340 m, is the tallest plunge waterfall in the country. Another spectacular waterfall is the Nohsngithiang Falls, also called as the Seven Sisters fall. All these makes Meghalaya unique. Meghalaya is a haven for cave enthusiasts, boasting 1,580 identified caves, with 980 already explored. Spread across the Jaintia, Khasi Hills, and Garo Hills districts, these caves rank among the longest globally.
